I’m aiming to get a postdoctoral position soon, and then in a year or so apply for my own fellowship funding. Then I’ll see how high I can climb 🙂

I’m not sure what I will do next after my current funding finishes. A lectureship would be amazing. I may pursue other funding in the near future. Another possibility is moving out of academia and into industry as software development for a while.

I’m aiming to reach further in my life in general. It’s no good to be stuck doing the same things all the time and not try new challenges!

I’m not 100% sure I will stay in academic research (at a University), at the moment I am thinking about whether I might go and work for technology company and help inventors make their ideas a reality.

I hope I will be lucky enough to keep doing research as I really like it! But I could also see myself working for a biotech company doing a similar type of work that I do now but focused on more immediate practical applications.

Yes, I want to go on doing research for the rest of my career. There are a lot of steps up I can still take: next year I’m going to write my first academic book!

Yes, I hope so. I’m looking to settle in a permanent job (all my positions so far have been temporary), but we’ll have to see what happens… It’d be good to get to the next stage, if I can, and some stability would be helpful for my research and family life. I think one of the hardest parts of being a researcher is the fact that unless you’re very lucky you don’t get to be a ‘grown up’ until quite late. But there are advantages to that too!

Once I’ve made my decision, I want to keep going! At the moment I’m not thinking specifically about my next steps, but I’d like to apply for a post-doc position somewhere in Europe.

That’s the plan! My current postdoctoral fellowship ends next year so I am hard at work thinking about my next step to continue investigating the brain!

I have a permanent job at the Faculty, so my next step is getting grants to do the projects I want to do. My next goal is funding a big project about how judges think about women – things like how they make decisions about women’s choices in pregnancy when most judges are men – do they have stereotypical views about women (that they have to be in the home, being mothers etc).

Yes! I’m currently working on a big project which will finish in 18 months, so I’m already thinking about the next project, so that I can have enough funding to keep doing research.

I hope so! My aim to is to become an independent researcher, so I can work on my own ideas and hire more people who are interested in researching them! This means I have to apply for research funding from a company or a research council. Wish me luck 🙂

At the moment, I’m pretty happy in Oxford. I’m an Associate Professor, so the next step is Professor but I need to finish my book for that to happen! I’m more focused on my next projects, one of which is about whether judges think about women differently to men – and whether they should. Oh, and I’m trying to write the last chapters of my book.
