I remember several games I loved in my childhood: hide-and-seek, ‘two-fires’ (kind of dodgeball), handball, but me and my friends spent most of the time just walking, running and cycling around my village. There were still not that many cars in Poland, so we could just meet in the middle of our street and play together. We were exploring nearby fields and forests, watching trains, picking fruits and nuts, building huts from sticks. During winter we could build from snow, skate or sled. During summer we made water battles and swam in lakes. I always loved to build something: sand castle, space ship from Lego bricks or paper-doll theatre.

I loved playing outside. I was no good at construction-type games, I just ended up breaking my brother’s stuff. Card games were (and are!) fun too.

My little brother and I loved playing with Lego. Our favourite was a series of dinosaur lego kits, I think my parents still have it somewhere in their attic.

I loved all sorts of board games, for example monopoly, domino, card games, guess who, connect 4, jenga, uno…. … In fact, I still do, my husband and I have a good collection of games and we spend lots of time playing. I also really liked video games!

We used to love 40-40. I have no idea why it was called that but essentially it involved a base from which the seeker would count to 40. Everyone would run away and then have to make it back to the base without the seeker catching them. Where I grew up there there was an abandoned asylum close by and we would play it in the orchard of the asylum!

As a child we used to play ‘force ’em backs’. It was a football (the egg-shaped kind) game where two lines had to kick the ball pass the opposing line, until you reach a certain marker. If the ball was caught on the full ‘a mark’ you got some number of extra paces. If you did a flying catch and landed on the ground (a ‘speccie’; spectacular) you got more points.
When I was a teenager I got into martial arts. So normally a few of us would just go down to a park (where there was nice grass) and spar one another, or make up Jackie Chan style routines.

I used to really enjoy board games and card games. I liked the competitiveness, but a a family we were also good at keeping it nicely competitive. I was also not sporty at all, so it was a way that I could be competitive at more thinking and strategy games. I still enjoy these games, but don’t have much of a chance to play anymore – I’d love to play game of thrones RISK though 🙂

I really love boardgame all… but I think, especially when I was younger, I spent a lot of my free time playing RPG (like D&D and many others).

As a child I used to play a lot outdoors, I am from a small town so we spent a lot of time playing in the park. One of my favourite games was hide-and-seek. At school we always played jump rope, and something we called “English chocolate”. I think that is known as grandmother footsteps or statues in English. Ha! It was really difficult to stand still without laughing and/or falling to the ground, which I guess it’s what made it so funny! Later on, I discovered boardgames, which I still love and play (we have quite the collection too)!

I used to go out playing football and cycling with friends a lot. The south of Birmingham is very green and has a lot of parks, so we had plenty of places to go (and could move on to hanging around the many different shopping areas when we were teenagers!)
When I was younger I didn’t get out as much. I had a Sega Mega Drive (until I upgraded to the Sega Dreamcast as a Christmas present just before I turned 10) and used to play a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog and various out-of-date sports games – Ayrton Senna’s Super Monaco GP II, Fifa 95, World Cup USA 94, European Club Soccer, Pelé, NBA Live 95, some EA ice hockey game… And of course ToeJam & Earl II: Panic on Funkatron. What a game that was!

I was a bit of a nerd 😀 I played a lot of video games with my neighbor, we had lots of fun. I also loved reading and playing with puzzles.

My favourite game as a child was chess. Outside games included rugby, cricket, and digging in the dirt!
