I had an amazing adventure taking a car around Iceland for 2 weeks. We stopped to hike up valleys with waterfalls, trecked across glaciers and drove out onto massive lava plains. We even got to sledge husky dogs across the ice fields. It was as my friend described it a “wow country”.
I really can’t decide which one of my adventures was the best one. Perhaps seeing overhelming Rome or exploring Etruscan tombs. Or rather chasing reindeers in Nordkapp and climbing on hills in 35’C heat in Albania or Turkey. Shopping in Estonia without knowing Estonian was quite challenging (have you ever heard something in Estonian?). What about walking across Aigina island quicker than a Greek bus? No, it must have been travelling by Ukrainian train with no food left in my backpack beacuse it was Sunday and all the shops were closed. Naah, getting lost in Polish woods was much more exciting. Or cycling around the lake Myvatn in Iceland (the wind was so strong that my friends were blown down from the way constantly). Even more exciting was going back to my flat after partys in Warsaw when I was a student. Hmmm… You know what? I think that giving birth without painkillers was the greatest adventure of my life. Life-changing experience. You should try it.
I drove right around England in my 20s in a week, Reading to Cornwall and all the way to Edinburgh. We slept in our car … in January. It was a mad week. We stopped getting dressed and just wore our pyjamas and big coats, were moved on by the police most nights for parking on traffic islands, got cornered in a phone box in Wrexham, danced at to the Stone Roses at the Hacienda, and we lived almost entirely off cheese platters and expired Barbie advent calendars that we got cheap at Sainsburys. Not sure what we were thinking, but it was the best fun ever.
